Welcome to the HEYS Group Home Page

"I am beginning to suspect all elaborate and special systems of education. They seem to me to be built upon the supposition that every child is a kind of idiot who must be taught to think. Whereas, if the child is left to himself, he will think more and better, if less showily. Let him go and come freely, let him touch real things and combine his impressions for himself, instead of sitting indoors at a little round table, while a sweet-voiced teacher suggests that he build a stone wall with his wooden blocks, or make a rainbow out of strips of coloured paper, or plant straw trees in bead flower-pots. Such teaching fills the mind with artificial associations that must be got rid of, before the child can develop independent ideas out of actual experience."

Our Mission

To provide local homeschooling families with a supportive community in which they can find like-minded families; exchange ideas/resources; support one another in their challenges/successes; and share their field trips, activities, talents, etc. with other homeschooling families.

Hello and welcome to our site!

We are a homeschool support group located in Eastern Pennsylvania, covering the Lehigh Valley region. If you live in the area and are interested in joining HEYS, please read on for more information about our philosophy and membership requirements.

If you're not in our vicinity, but happened upon us via internet search, feel free to stay awhile anyway. Take your time, look around - we have general information for the newcomer, as well as an extensive resource page for homeschoolers in need of some fresh ideas. Tell the family you need some quiet time, grab a cup of something hot, and peruse the information on our pages. (Don't forget to bookmark us in 5 minutes when you get interrupted.) Enjoy the site.

If you are interested in joining HEYS, please go to the About HEYS page.
